You should have a general idea of which combinations work and which don’t. More importantly, it helps you set boundaries on your color selection and stops you from overdoing it.
Don’t Force It
We have said many times how the homeowner’s style and taste plays an important role in the final house design. Perhaps you have a favorite color that you want to put in but doesn’t seem to be working; don’t force it if it’s not. Remember that both trim and siding have to harmonize with other elements such as your metal roofing, too. The front entry door is usually independent of the exterior color palette and provides more latitude with its color selection, which makes it a good way to incorporate a favorite color without looking forced.
Trim Is Generally Lighter
The human eye has a tendency to be drawn to lighter colors first, which is why most people choose trim colors that are lighter than the siding. It may not sound as unique, but trim highlights the house’s architectural features. Try Color Combinations During Different Times of the Day

Place each color pair outdoors where you can see it with the roof, then see how they look in the morning, at noon, in the afternoon, and at dusk. Eliminate color pairs that don’t look good.
