Best guide for homeowners

When it comes to gutters, there are a multitude of options on the market, so shopping around for new ones can be a bit overwhelming for a first-time homeowner. In today’s post, expert roofing services provider Custom Installations compiles the most basic questions that you need to ask in order to find that perfect gutter system to match your home.

Gutter Q &amp

Question: What are the basic shapes available?

Answer: There are two basic types of gutters available that are referred to by the shape of their cross-section. First, you have your K-Style gutters which have flat bottoms and backs and a decorative front. This is the most popular type of gutter used today. Second, you have your half-round gutters so-called for their half-tube shape. These are more common in older, historic homes.

Question: What materials are they made of?

Answer: Residential and commercial gutters come in many different materials that include aluminum, copper, vinyl, and steel, among others. Have a discussion with your roof and siding contractor to find out which material is best suited for your home.

Question: Are there different sizes? What size should I get?

Answer: There are two basic sizes of gutters, you have your 5-inch and 6-inch. For most homes, 5-inch gutters are large enough to handle the amount of water that collects on your roof, but if you live in an area where the rainfall is above average, it might be wiser to get the 6-inch.

Question: Should I get sectional or seamless gutters?

Answer: Sectional gutters are pieced together from different lengths and then cut to size to fit around your roof. These are the most common types of gutter as they are relatively inexpensive and very easy to install. However, they do come with a drawback since they are made of many pieces and are more prone to damage. Seamless gutters are made from a single piece of gutter and are tailor-made just for you. These are more expensive but, if you have the budget for them, they are well worth the investment as they are more durable and can last a very long time.
