What is stone-coated steel roofing made of?

It’s a steel core coated with a layer of stone chips and sealed with an acrylic film. This gives it the durability of metal with the appearance of traditional materials like tile, shake, or slate.

How long does a stone-coated steel roof last?

Properly installed, these systems can last 40–70 years. They’re highly resistant to rust, cracking, warping, and fading — making them a true lifetime roofing solution.

Is it noisy during rain or hail?

Not at all. Unlike exposed metal systems, stone-coated steel has a textured finish and is installed over solid decking with underlayment — which deadens sound and performs quietly in storms.

Can this be installed over my existing roof?

In some cases, yes — but we typically recommend tear-off for full system integration and to inspect the deck underneath. We’ll assess your home and explain the best approach.

Is stone-coated steel worth the higher upfront cost?

Absolutely. While it costs more upfront than asphalt shingles, it offers significantly longer lifespan, fewer repairs, and major storm resistance — all while enhancing curb appeal and resale value.
