Today, the biggest challenge for homeowners looking to upgrade their exteriors isn’t finding suitable siding and roofing services for the job, but in deciding what type of products they want to use in their project. Siding products, in particular, come in a wide variety of designs, colors and performance ratings, that it’s nearly impossible to choose one type of siding without any help.

Thankfully, James Hardie® has made it easier for both homeowners and siding installation companies to find a product that is 100% right for whatever the job requires. This is done by classifying the needs of homes in different areas and creating product lines that work best in those situations. These areas are called HardieZones. Let our experienced siding contractors at Custom Installations explain how these HardieZones can help you in your search for a suitable siding product.

What Is the HardieZone System?

As the leading siding manufacturer in the country, James Hardie makes it easier for a siding contractor or a homeowner to find the best siding system for a home-based on location. The HardieZone System divides the country into ten climatic zones and recommends siding products that work well under these conditions.

HardieZones 1 to 5

Illinois falls under the first category that includes Zones 1 to 5. These zones experience mild summers and cold winters. The siding products that work well in these areas belong to HZ5® or HardieZone 5. These siding systems are designed to withstand the cold and are resistant to ice, hail and snow.

HardieZones 6 to 10

On the other end of the spectrum is HZ10® or HardieZone 10. Like metal roofing, these products are meant to endure the blistering heat of Southern summers, as well as hurricane-force winds and sheets of torrential rains.

At Custom Installations, we can help you find and install a good HardieZone system that would give your siding and your home optimal energy performance.
